“To me, the significance of an artwork is found in the relationship between the actual surface of that artwork, the marks made upon it, the form and image created by those marks, and the perceived space contained within the work.
To explore this, my chosen subject matter is presently the human figure, and often only the head. But not in a ‘portrait’ sense. It is my endeavour to make paintings and drawings that go beyond appearance and likeness, but still be convincing – and perhaps new – ways of seeing a head or figure.”
